Brothers,

The Centennial Year of the Order of the Arrow could not have been any better for Witauchsoman Lodge #44.  Even with the more challenging requirements, we achieved gold level of the Journey to Excellence program.  We also received the E. Urner Goodman Camping Award for the first time in lodge history.  The Lodge had an active participation amongst the National, Sectional, and Council levels. We brought a large contingent of members to the Section NE-5B Conclave.

Furthermore, we brought a contingent and staff of 111 members to participate in the 2015 National Order of the Arrow Conference at Michigan State University. While at NOAC, our very own lodge adviser, Scott Best received the Distingushed Service Award. The award is presented to Arrowmen only at the National Order of the Arrow Conference, youth and adult, who have rendered distinguished and outstanding service to the Order on a sectional, regional, or national basis. Since the awards beginning in 1940, less than 1,000 have been awarded on the national level.

The Lodge helped to improve all three council camps through our ordeal weekends, and other service weekends.  Some of major projects included:  Collecting 335 Toys for Tots, rebuilding and expanding the Akelaland Fire Circle, building a Gaga Pit and installing central AC in the Trading Post at Settlers Camp, and replacing cabin roofs at Camp Minsi. Witauchsoman Lodge #44 contributed $185,489 to the community, Council, Districts, Camps, and Scoutreach in 2015.

We also held our Lodge OctoberFest Weekend which included our Lodge Leadership Development, annual planning, and induction of 7 new Vigil members.

Membership compared to the previous year showed positive growth with 402 registered Ordeal members, 262 registered Brotherhood members, and 127 registered Vigil members, contributing to a total of 791 members for 2015.

Every member contributed to our success in 2015, and we thank them as well as the Council for supporting our mission year after year. Witauchsoman Lodge #44 celebrated our 47th year this past year and we look forward to celebrating our 48th this year in conjunction with the Minsi Trails Council.

Benjamin Oswald  | Lodge Chief

Brothers,

The past few weeks have been extremely busy and exciting for Witauchsoman Lodge #44. A few weeks ago, we hosted OctoberFest 2015 at Trexler Scout Reservation. Over 100 Arrowmen were in attendance for a weekend of fun, fellowship, and LLD training. At the conclusion of the LLD training Saturday morning, arrowmen became inspired to become more involved on both the lodge and chapter level. A special thanks to Nick Aubrey, Section NE-2A who ventured all the way from Connecticut to be one of our trainers. Also, congratulations to all of our new Brotherhood and Vigil Members from the OcotberFest weekend!

On Columbus Day, I was the youth representative from the council at the annual Minsi Trails Council Golf Classic held at Brookside Country Club in Macungie, PA. As lodge chief, I greeted golfers throughout the morning and the afternoon. I also was on hand to answer any questions one may have about Witauchsoman Lodge #44 or the Order of the Arrow.

With a few more weeks left of fall before we begin the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, sign up for the 2016 Lodge Banquet to be held at the Holiday Inn Trexlertown on January 9, 2016. More details and registration can be found at http://witauchsoman.org/banquet/.

Don’t forget to begin to complete the lodge award forms for awards such as the Service Award and Outstanding Arrowmen Award. Nominations are also needed for the Purple Arrow Award and Founders Award. Please visit http://witauchsoman.org/awards/ for award details and instructions.

Now is the time to also pay your 2016 membership dues. You may do so at http://witauchsoman.org/dues/.

I look forward to seeing you all the lodge banquet and future lodge events!

September 2015 Chiefly Speaking

Lodge Chief Ben

Brothers,

I would first like to thank the lodge for electing me as your 2015-2016 lodge chief. These first few weeks of my term  have been both busy and exciting. I’m humbled that you’ve chosen me to be your leader as we exit the centennial anniversary of our order.

Thank you to all the youth leaders, adult advisers, and lodge members who made the Fall Fellowship Weekend possible. The service impact on Camp Minsi was incredible and could not have happened without all of you! Also, congratulations to all new Ordeal and Brotherhood Members!

Looking to the future, 2016 is going to be one of our most challenging and fun years in the Order of the Arrow. As you already know, we will host the Section NE-5B Conclave at Trexler Scout Reservation from June 10-12, 2016.

Also, as the season of fall is well underway, I invite you to attend OctoberFest 2015 from October 9-11, 2015 at Settlers Camp for a weekend of FUN with no service at any time. The lodge has been busy planning for fun activities Saturday afternoon, open shooting ranges, great OctoberFest food, excellent leadership training cells, patch trading, Vigil Fellowship, as well as a large OctoberFest party Saturday night! Also, eligible Brotherhood candidates can complete their Brotherhood at the weekend. All of your fellow lodge members will be there for the most exciting event of the year, so don’t miss out!
